[back to master post.]

This story was very vivid in my head as I was writing. It played out very much like a movie down to the lighting, the cut-aways and reveals, and of course, the music cues. Not gonna lie, I'm pretty bummed that this movie will never actually exist, but still. Hopefully you guys will enjoy the music that the pretend movie in my head was set to. ;)

I am not really sure where to begin here. This story has really been a journey. Back on January 6th of this year, I posted this in my journal: "I think I have an idea for my big bang. It's basically like, if Veronica Mars, Sherlock Holmes, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and Psych all got together and had a baby, and that baby grew up to be gay, it'd be this fic." And that's.. not what happened. Sort of, but not really. This thing took on a mind of its own and I was unable to keep it in check. The story that was written wasn't exactly the story that I intended to write. The victim wasn't the original victim, the murderer wasn't the original murderer, and the ending wasn't the original ending. This thing put me through the ringer.
One thing is certain. If it weren't for
kamikaze_redux and
woodstarling, this story would not exist. They were my support system through this whole crazy thing, from the moment where I got the idea and thought it was too far out of my comfort zone and they told me to go for it all the way up until now. Both of them let me ramble because they know that sometimes the only way I can work through something is to talk it out. They were there for me, plain and simple. They never stopped encouraging me, and this story is something new and different and completely out of my mold, and I'm proud of it. So, thanks to my girls for never letting me quit. You both are simply amazing. ♥
I did a lot of research for this story. Not to mention the sleuthathons that me and
woodstarling had. If you have me friended, I'm sure you remember all the delirious, caffeine-fueled updates. This story isn't based off of any one thing. I came up with the plot all on my own, but it was definitely inspired by many works. I would say Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Veronica Mars really influenced me, but here is an abridged list of all the movies we watched to help get my creative juices flowing: The aforementioned KKBB and Veronica Mars, Brick, Lucky Number Slevin, The Black Dahlia, Hollywoodland, Chinatown, The Usual Suspects, The Big Lebowski, L.A. Confidential, The Maltese Falcon, Out of the Past, and various others.
I also bought a book called Writing the Private Eye Novel: A Handbook By the Private Eye Writers of America, no lie. That's actually the title. I also had a very wonderful local police detective on hand to ask about police procedure. He let me ramble about this fictional sleuthalecki and answered all my various texts about little minute details that I doubt anyone actually even cares about. He's obviously not reading this, but thanks, Detective Greg. You're the man!
Long story made not very short, I am proud of the work that I did on this story. One of my goals for this year was to right something completely out of my comfort zone, and this is it. It was definitely an interesting journey, and I hope that you all enjoyed the finished product. ♥
